Policies & Procedures
The policies and procedures of Tule Elk Park CDC have been grouped into three categories: general, safety and health.
General Policies and Procedures
1. All children must be dropped off and picked up by an adult (18 years of age). Adults must bring the child into the classroom and greet staff. Please bring your child no later than 10:00 a.m. so that he/she can receive the full benefits of the program provided. If your child will be arriving late due to an appointment, please notify the Center.
2. All children must be signed in and out daily. Please sign your first and last name and exact time of arrival and departure.
3. The hours of service for subsidized service are based on your family’s work hours or hours of school/training. You are required to bring and pick up your child according to your contract hours. To change your contract hours, you must discuss this with the site manager.
4. The Center closes at 5:30 p.m. If your child has not been picked up by 5:45 p.m. staff may call the San Francisco Police Department. The police will take the child to social services juvenile facility unit until parents can be located. Three late pick-ups will result in termination of services.
5. Children in the subsidized program are allowed only 10 vacation days per fiscal year. Excessive unexcused absence will lead to termination of services.
6. Update your emergency cards (located in classroom and front office) when you change address, home, work, or cell phone numbers. Remember to list on the card those adults who have permission to pick up your child when you cannot.
7. Check your child’s mailbox each day for important announcements and information (e.g. fee notices, recertification, messages, etc.) and read all written communications on the bulletin board.
8. Pay childcare fees before the 10th of the month.
9. Participate in parent meetings, workshops, and other activities.
10. Check your child’s locker periodically to ensure there is an extra set of clothes in case of emergency.
11. No candy, gum, toys, cosmetics, etc are allowed at the Center. One birthday cake is allowed with the teacher’s permission. Please bring plates and forks.
12. Please call the center, 749-3551, if your child will be absent. If your child is sick, we need to know the type of illness.
13. Children should arrive clean, in good health, and ready to participate in the day’s activities.
14. Sick children need to stay at home. Children out sick for more than 5 days will need to bring a doctor’s note. Prescription medicine can be given by staff only with a doctor’s note (form is provided by Child Development Center) giving instructions on dosage and time accompanied by parents’ authorizing signature.
15. Parents need to let staff know about any allergies or food restrictions their child may have.
16. Approximate meal times:
-
Breakfast: 8:00-8:30 a.m.
-
Morning Snack: 9:30 a.m.

Safety Policies & Procedures
1. Your child is not under the responsibility of the program until you sign him/her in. Please do not allow your child to walk into the center alone. Unless a responsible adult signs the child in, the child will not be accepted for the day. This also applies to signing the child out. No child will be released unless a responsible adult whose name is on the emergency card signs him/her out.
2. Be respectful to children, parents, and staff. Yelling will not be tolerated. No parent is allowed to confront any child at any time. If you have a concern, please see a staff person or the site manager.
3. Close the front gate and/or front door as you enter and exit the center each day.
4. Talk to your child to reinforce the safety rules of the center (e.g. no child is allowed to leave the center alone, no child should cause physical harm to another child or adult, no child should use inappropriate language with another child or adult).
Health Policies & Procedures
1. Each child will be checked daily upon arrival to the center.
2. The daily health check will be performed by a staff person. Parents must remain at the center until the health check is completed.
3. If a child is found to be sick (e.g. fever, diarrhea, vomiting, unidentifiable rash, etc) and is not able to participate in the day’s activities, the child will not be accepted on that day and the parent will need to make other childcare arrangements.
4. If a child gets sick during the day, the parent (or a responsible adult on the emergency card) will be notified immediately and the child must be picked up within one hour.
5. A child who is sent home during the day with a fever, diarrhea, or vomiting cannot return to the center until 24 hours after the illness has stopped.
6. A child who is sent home with an unidentifiable rash or illness must obtain a doctor’s note before he/she is allowed to return to the center.
7. If a child needs to receive any medication during center hours, the medication administration card must be completed by the doctor and the parent and be on file at the center.
8. All children are expected to come to the center in good health.
9. Please keep your child at home if he/she is sick. Be considerate of other children, families, and staff.
