Tule Elk Pre-K Program
At Tule Elk Park PreK our goal is to help children become successful learners. Learning takes place on many levels. Through our garden project we encourage children to learn about the beauty and wisdom of nature. Through our daily interactions in an environment that supports diversity we support children’s learning about relationships. Through our observations about the children’s interests in the world, we develop projects that go deep in understanding using many modalities – writing/dictating, photos/drawing, music/songs, light/color, and more. And probably most important, learning takes place in an environment where it is okay to make mistakes – to observe and reflect on outcomes and make adjustments and try new strategies.
We also have as our goal that the teachers and staff will continue to be successful learners. We learn from the children, new ways of seeing the world. We learn from the families, new ideas and world perspectives. And we continue to learn from each other through professional dialogue and sharing.
We value joy in learning, an inquisitive mind, creativity, and the importance of play. There is also the importance of time. Time slows down for reflection and processing information. It allows for the development of understanding and re-working of thoughts and ideas.
